Hermitage Castle

The castle is located in splendid isolation a few miles outside the village.

It is a formidable presence – easily conjuring images of the bloody struggles for control of the Border lands.

Hermitage is surrounded by myth and legend but in truth much happened on the site creating a history of torture, treason – and romantic trysts!

Well worth a visit – take a picnic. The landscape, setting and running waters make for a truly magical and memorable experience.
