Notes
Whitrope Heritage Centre is open in the summer only on some weekend days. Information and exhibits relate to the Waverley line Borders Railway. Look up www.wrha.org.uk for opening times and more information. This is an easy stroll to spend some time enjoying the scenery and upland plants and wildlife of the area . It would be a good addition to a visit to the Heritage Centre during opening times. It can be walked at other times too.

Walk Steps

Start at the fingerpost signed – To Viewpoint.

This constructed path is fairly easy walking through open ground within an open area of forest.

The path heads North. Climb gently uphill walking on the path which is fairly well defined. After a kilometre or so and around 100 metres of climb the path takes a turn. This area is called Sandy Edge. In a short distance and after another turn in the path the view opens in front of you. There is a basic seat at the viewpoint. Take time to enjoy the view towards Leap Hill and North and below to the old railway.

Retrace your steps to return.  Look out for upland plants such as tormentil and cloudberry. Birds to look out for include buzzards and goldfinch.
