There is a range of activities for all age groups and all interests. 7stanes mountain biking trails, a variety of outdoor activities from abseiling to gorge walking at Rock UK, which also has an indoor swimming pool for those bad weather days! For the cyclist who loves the challenge of a longer route or the adventure of the forest, there is the Southern Borders Loop and a further 28 miles of lakeside trails at Kielder Forest and Water Park, just 30 minutes away.

Huge a range of walks both long and short,  exploring the village, local countryside and forest where wildlife watching is also popular.  Whitrope Heritage Centre is a must for those who like big dirty engines and tells a fascinating history of the old Waverly Line.

Is horse riding your passion? there are plenty of local trails, on quiet lanes and off-road, bring your own for a day out and explore the forest or book into one of our local centres, 30 mins away.

Maybe a game of golf is more to your taste – once you’ve made it around the 9-hole challenging golf course you won’t forget it, nor the views which are some of the best in Liddesdale.   There is fishing for sea or brown trout or if you are very very lucky salmon, all on the Liddel and the Esk. Permits are necessary but can be bought in the village.  Bring your rods, best explored when the rivers are running.

There is also Polysport our community-owned sports facility which has tennis courts, astroturf, gym and the playing fields.

We are fortunate to have an abundance of wildlife right on our doorstep, from Red squirrels to Adders, Hares to Roe Deer living alongside Pheasants and a huge variety of wild birds. Whether you are into painting, photography or just quietly watching, there is something for everyone. The photographers and Artists among you will also appreciate the variety of beautiful landscapes all around us.

If you are not into sports, we have a super Heritage Centre where you can see the history of the area laid out in photos and exhibitions and maybe find out a bit about your ancestry.

You might also want to visit during one the main village events such as the Newcastleton Traditional Music Festival or the Holm Show – we’d love to see you there!

And after you have sampled the activities above remember there is a warm welcome at the fine local places to eat, stay and shop.
