Mountain Biking at Newcastleton
If you want to try mountain-biking in Scotland or are an experienced rider who likes a challenge then Newcastleton has it all.
Only a few miles from the Scotland-England border, in the scenic Liddesdale Valley, home to one of Scotland’s world class 7stanes mountain-biking centres, Newcastleton offers a range of trails for all abilities from family groups to experienced thrill seekers.
The 7stanes, is a series of purpose built trail centres across southern Scotland which are the best quality trails in the UK, including the popular Glentress, Ae and Kirroughtree trails. 7stanes maps are available to purchase for only £12.00 for the full set of all the Stanes trails. Contact us for details of how to get the maps by post.
Newcastleton offers a perfect introduction to the stanes and is situated only fifteen miles from Kielder Water and Forest Park which offers a range of experiences for the keen mountain biker. There is plenty to do.
The Kielder trails can be reached by road (25 minute drive) or for the more adventurous by using the Cross Border Trail. The Border stane at Newcstleton hosts the 24 hours of Exposure European solo MTB championships and is part of the now infamous Keilder 100 MTB challenge. Extreme MTB events not for the faint hearted.
The village of Newcastleton is only a short cycle from the start of the 7stanes trails and offers ample free parking at Douglas Square in the heart of the village, with bike racks, toilets, showers, village information, shops, good food, a range of accommodation and friendly locals keen to welcome you to the area. Bikes can be hired locally from Rock uk.
Newcastleton has been officially recognised as Scotlands first bike friendly village. If you want to experience Scotland’s mountain-biking heaven with a holiday or short break away from the hustle and bustle of some of the busier stanes then Newcastleton is a perfect starting point.
