The Folk Festival By Elizabeth Elliot

At Festival time every available space is filled with people – in tents, cars and caravans. Over the years, since 1971, they have come from far and near to enjoy the music, singing, reciting and, we hope, the friendliness of the people of Newcastleton.

Many well-known on the folk scene, have come to serve and advise and have continued to give their support through the years; we are grateful to them.

The local Committee have retained their enthusiasm from the beginning and have had generous help, on the catering side, from the W.R.I., the Liddesdale Ladies Amenities Group, and the Scouts.

Judging takes place on the Saturday and it is good to see so many highly talented young men and women taking the honours. Impromptu ceilidhs are held throughout the weekend and are very popular.

The Festival benefits trade and for this reason too it is hoped that it will continue to flourish.
