Heritage Centre


Many of the facts and history produced on this site have come from the Liddesdale Heritage Association. The association is a voluntary community group who run the Liddesdale Heritage Centre and Museum in the former Townfoot Kirk in South Hermitage Street, Newcastleton.

The museum houses an attractive display, which portrays the history of Liddesdale and its people and contains many books and article son the Borders, a commemorative bi-centenary tapestry created by local needle workers is a unique exhibit. Of special interest is a collection of Waverley Line Memorabilia, which includes a Newcastleton Station platform seat and the Steel Road Station clock. The museum is also the venue for visiting exhibitions and other special events. Facilities are available for genealogical research.

Open from Easter to the end of September daily from 1.30-4.40pm, except Tuesdays. There is a small admission charge, but Liddesdale residents can visit free. Group visits outside normal hours by arrangement (10% reduction for groups over 20)
