Competing in shows is the main target for all stick makers. Luckily they are plentiful in the Borders, with one or two shows every week throughout the summer.
The first one is the Selkirk show in March, which is open to only those who have made sticks in classes in the past year.
A much regarded win here will inspire the owner to all the coming events across the summer, which tend to be of the open variety.
The highlight of the year is the Scottish Champion of Champion show at Yetholm in October.
In 2007 the Holm Classes won 6 of the major titles, including the much coveted BEST IN SHOW.
