Royal British Legion, Liddesdale Branch and Social Club
The Branch was formed in 1947 after a meeting in the Drill Hall at North Liddle Street.
The Committee purchased premises in Montague Street where the social club was formed and opened in 1953. It remained there until 1977. In the meantime the Mechanics Hall at 3a North Hermitage Street was purchased and opened at 7 minutes past 7 on the 7th July 1977.
Sadly, due to financial difficulties, the bar was closed on 15th May 2011.
The Branch, however, continues. The Children and Senior Citizens Fund remains within the Branch in a separate, charitable account.
The RBLS is dedicated to helping members, ex members and families of our armed forces and other affiliated organisations in many ways, such as financial matters, therapy, artificial limbs, housing, hospital visits, visits to our war graves and many more.
The Liddesdale branch of the RBLS, working from here in Newcastleton, helps these causes as much and as often as we are able. We are active and in need of your support.
You may join as a full member (ex forces etc.), a family member, or as an associate member of our branch.
If you are not already a member, join the Liddesdale branch and have your say in the future of the RBLS.
Membership Fees:- Full member £8.00
Family member £8.50
Over 65 member £7.00
COMMITTEE MEETINGS
are now held as and when advised but would normally be held on the first Tuesday of each month.
Any enquiries should be directed to the Chairman - Mr T Bell, 01387375820.
