Newcastleton Polysport
Polysport is the village all-weather astroturf multi-sports pitch with fencing and floodlighting. We also have a clubhouse comprising changing rooms, referees room, first aid room, storage space and well equipped fitness room. Membership is available to the whole community and paying visitors are always welcome, as are non playing members / suppporters. There is ample free parking.
Prior to the development of Polysport the only sports facilities in the village were the tarmac tennis court, in poor condition in the play park and the 125-year-old Hearts of Liddesdale village football team with its own leased pitch in the village.
The idea of renovating the tennis court was first proposed in June 1998 and became the impetus for the formation of Newcastleton Polysport in 1999 and the larger facilities project. With strong leadership from a local resident, the embryonic group gained charity status and embarked on a program of development planning and fund-raising to create the new facilities.
The new pitch was formally opened by Steve Cram on 31 January 2001 and was subsequently featured in the Children in Need broadcast in November 2001.
January 2011 marks the 10th Anniversary of Polysport. It has been great to see how much pleasure the village has had from this facility. The support from the whole village has been wonderful. Membership fees are now due and have been kept the same as last year.
Elvis's football continues on Mondays along with Ladies Netball 8pm tp 9pm and Tennis will start again on Fridays as soon as the weather picks up. There are still spaces available in all these activities if anyone would like to start.
We continue to thank our funders and our voluntary supporters without whom we would not have Polysport. We hope you enjoy our facilities. It would be great if we could have some new members on the committee. We only have a max for 4 committee meetings per year.
If you would like to become a member or help out in any way, please contact Mrs Elizabeth Kennedy on 013873 75849 or Mrs Barbara Walker on 013873 75304.
