There has never been a better time to cycle in the Scottish Borders or Kielder Forest. For the perfect off road ride between Kielder Lakeside Way and Newcastleton there is the newly signed cross border trail. There is also the Southern Borders Loop, if you want a either a challenge or to take it a bit easier with an overnight stop. The loop is available to download from the home page.
We are a growing cycle hub in the heart of the Scottish Borders, offering great leisure cycling close to the famous Kielder Water, with not only one of the famous 7Stanes Mountain bike trails www.7stanesmountainbiking.com, but we are bang on the wonderful Reivers coast to coast route which links the Irish Sea with the North Sea.
The Reivers Route is one of the most beautiful rides in Britain, going west through rural Northumberland via the Borders down to the Northern Lakes, ending up at Whitehaven.
Those wishing to tackle this 173-mile long challenge should check out the the route on www.reivers-route.co.uk, or in Coast to Coast Cycle Routes (Baytree Press £9.99) available on www.c2c-guide.co.uk.
Newcastleton welcomes cyclists and takes pride in being as helpful as possible. Newcastleton has been officially recognised as Scotlands first bike friendly village offering bike hire, free showers and bike wash. Many cycle clubs meet in the village and stay more than once a year to enjoy the fantastic local cycling and some bring the whole family along to enjoy the fun. Don't forget that while you are cycling, there are some fantastic views and keep an eye out for the wonderful wildlife around here. See if you can spot any of the Red Squirrels, Roe Deer or any Hares and wild Rabbits.
Accommodation to suit all budgets is available all year, food and drink also available all day, all year.
